A full week of Bise and great measurement conditions

Last week the long awaited North-Easterly winds (Bise) made their appearance, bringing with them cold temperatures, snow and most relevant for us also high fog. After initially too much snow fall to conduct measurements we got several days of great conditions.

Last week we finally got suitable conditions for our experiments with cold enough temperatures and high fog with a suitable thickness around our main site. Especially the cold temperatures were great to reach the so-called plate regime, i.e. ice crystals form plates rather than columns (what we usually had last winter). In addition we managed to see ice crystals upwind thanks to the scanning radars. But from the ground up, not much could be seen as HoloBalloon was hidden well in the clouds.
