Start of the last winter campaign 2023/2024
As of today, the first devices of our partners from the TROPOS Institute are back on the Rapier-Platz while we set up our trailer again with aerosol measurements before we dedicate ourselves to the preparation of our tethered balloon system when favorable conditions for its inflcation occur. In a few days, when we are allowed to fly our UAVs again, we will have to wait for suitable weather conditions (cold and cloudy) during this last campaign of CLOUDLAB.
In addition to the external page LACROS container from TROPOS and the external page Mira Ka band (35 GHz) rented from Metek, this year we even have another radar at a second location to observe the growth of the ice crystals even better or later. Thanks to the support of the owners and the external page Leipzig Institute for Meteorology, we were able to install a W band (94 GHz) radar at Ryseralp. With the right wind conditions, we can extend our observation period by a few valuable minutes.
